Adding Itinerary Items

Adding Itinerary Items

What Are Itinerary Items?

This article assumes you’re already comfortable with adding itineraries – if that’s not the case, check out this article: Create An Itinerary
Items act as blocks of content for your itinerary pages. They can display information on the tour itinerary, coaches, hotels and other bits of information you think customers will find helpful. Images can also be used in conjunction with these to show off hotels, destinations etc.

Item Types

There are several types of items existing within WebRes:
  1. Itinerary – Displays the itinerary for the tour. Typically this is day-by-day but can be in whichever format you prefer
  2. Hotel – Displays information on the hotel the customer will be staying at
  3. Coach – Displays coach specifications like seats, on-board facilities etc
  4. Callouts – Used to add extra images to your main itinerary image
  5. Includes – Displays what is included in the tour package
We can create any number of extra item types with their own functionalities and layouts upon request.

Creating a New Item

  1. Log into WebRes and head to Manage Itineraries  Tour Itineraries
  2. Find the itinerary you want to add an item to, then click the title or the red edit button
  3. Within the itinerary editor click ‘Items’ along the top navigation to bring up the item editor
  4. Click the green ‘Add New’ button to bring up the item selector

Item Input Fields

When pasting text from other sources such as external websites, PDFs or Word Documents please use 'control + shift + V' on Windows or '⌘ + shift + V' on mac to avoid potentially harmful formatting.

Item Type - This will be the style of item you want to use. Not all of these will be active for your website. Please check with us to see which ones you’re using, or look at an existing itinerary for reference. For this example we’ll go with the Itinerary item type.

Title / Subtitle - Some items will bring in a title and a subtitle.

Text - This is the body content of the item. Here you can display plain text or HTML. If you wish to edit the HTML simply click the HTML tags button along the toolbar at the top.

Images - By default, your website will bring images through into sliders. This behaviour can be changed upon request. To add images, click ‘select image’ and find one in your file browser. You can also upload one through here or select an existing image. When you have selected the image, click ‘Save’ in the bottom-left of the item editor. This will add the image to your list, allowing you to add another. Repeat the process for every image you want to use. You can fill in the Alternate Text field against each image to provide a quick line of text to help people using screen readers.

If information is stored in your t3 it can most likely be brought through to your website and you will not need to specify this in items. For example: Tour name, prices, supplements, duration and pickup points are all dynamically brought in and don't need to be used in fields like 'Title' or 'Text'.
You can safely save your work with ‘Save & Close’. When you add the item successfully, you’ll see it appear on your item list.

If you need to edit an item you can click the red edit button along the right. The trash can button will delete the item. If you wish to bulk-delete items, tick the checkboxes along the left and click the big ‘remove selected’ button.

Using Master Template Items

Master Template Items can be reused across several itineraries. If you change the content on these items, they will update across any itinerary where they have been used. These are especially good for hotels and coaches, where the information will most likely remain the same for each itinerary. They can later be detached from your template and turned into generic items if you need to change information on certain itineraries.

Creating Master Template Items

Head to Manage Itineraries  Master Template Items to view the list of existing Master Template Items. Click ‘Add New’ to create a new one.

This process is the same as creating regular items as specified at the beginning of this article. Specify an Item Type, Title, Subtitle and some body Text. Images are optional. When you’re done, save the item and return to the item list. It will now appear on the list.

Adding Master Template Items

To add the new master item to an itinerary, head to Manage Itineraries  Tour Itineraries and edit your chosen itinerary.

Click ‘Items’ and then in the bottom-left, select the type of item you used. This will then show all available master items of that type. Choose your new item from the dropdown list then click ‘Add From Template’.

The item will show up with your other items on the list above. Unlike your existing items, you will not be able to edit this through the Items list. You’ll need to go back to Manage Itineraries  Master Template Items. You’re able to detach the item from the template by clicking the green ‘Template Item’ switch along the right. Once it’s grey and reads ‘No’ it will become specific to this itinerary, and you can safely edit it. This is good in instances where you have information that needs tweaking slightly depending on certain circumstances regarding specific itineraries.

Each website we develop can use items differently depending on your original design. If you're unsure how any of them work, or if you'd like new items adding, please contact us.
