Discounting a tour

Discounting a tour

With t3, you can create and edit fixed price or variable discounts applicable to bookings through t3, webres or both.

Discounts are managed through Maintain > Discounts or from the tours settings if only discounting a single tour.
From Discount Maintenance, new discounts can be created and existing discounts can be filtered, searched and edited.

Managing discounts

Through Discount Maintenance, new discounts are created by clicking the 'Add' icon from the toolbar. This will open a blank template window where you can set the qualifying conditions for the discount.
An existing discount can be selected from the list to either edit, copy or delete.

When working on an individual tours, clicking the 'Discount' button will open a window showing all discounts currently available to that tour.
If a discount showing here is only applicable to that tour then it can be edited or removed. If a discount is applicable to more than this tour then it is view only and must be edited or deleted through Discount Maintenance.
Adding a new discount from here will open the same Discount Add window as through the maintenance section but is already pre-ticked to the current tour and cannot be changed.

Discount Scheme

Begin by naming the discount, giving a brief description and specifying whether it will be for bookings through t3, webres or all. The name is what the customer will see if booking online, it will be shown on the booking and can also be used for reporting on a campaign.

Discount Type

Set whether the discount is a fixed price reduction or variable/percentage.

Discount Rates

Based on the discount type specified, you will be able to set a fixed value or a percentage.
  • A fixed rate will allow the discount to be set to either per booking or per passenger.
  • A variable rate can be either the basic cost of the booking or total cost. Total cost is not available to webres discounts.

Promotional Code

Entering a promotional code will allow the discount to only be redeemed once the correct code has been entered at the checkout on webres. Through t3, this code is visible at the beginning of the booking process.
The promotional code type can be set to unlimited, 'One Time Only' to allow a first come first served basis or 'N times Only' which has a configurable number of uses.

Free Place Ratio

For webres only, requires a set number of places before a booking qualifies for a single free place. The lowest priced place goes free.

Criteria

To limit the tours a discount is applicable to, various criteria can be configured.
  • Tour Departure Date restricts the discount to a tour departing between the two dates selected.
  • Booking Date restricts the discount to only bookings made between the date range selected.
  • Duration allows all tours with a specified number of days to be discounted eg. all 5 day tours.
  • Brand selects from the available companies/brands configured in t3. If only one brand is configured this is not applicable.
  • The four category filters can be used to limit a discount to tours only with a particular category applied. The default is to include all but when choosing a category, multiple categories of the same type can be selected. If multiple are selected, they will show as comma separated values.

  • Hit List Tours Only is a flag against individual tours. Check this to allow those tours to be discounted.
  • Single Tour Only allows one tour to be selected. Check the box and then click the V icon to open a tour browser and choose the tour.

Note: If no criteria is set, the discount will be available to all tours and will be automatically discounting all tours set to web on sale.

Status

A discount needs to be set to Current/Active before it it becomes available for use.

Excluding tours from discounts

It is possible to select individual tours to be excluded from all discount campaigns.

Within the individual tour settings there is a tick box titled Do Not Discount, ticking this and saving the settings will exclude the tour from falling into any discount criteria.

The default status for this setting is unticked so all newly created tours will be eligible for discounts.
