This guide will show you how to add a Feature Module to a Page in the Admin section of your WebRes system. Feature Modules are little re-usable components that bring your site to life. Sliders/Carousels, Search Results, and Advanced Search are all examples of Feature Modules.
Not sure where the Page Feature Module settings are? They can be found in the Admin section of your WebRes 6 under - Manage Pages -> Page Features & Modules Finding the Page You Wish to Manage Feature Modules For
By default, the Home page is the selected Page when opening the Page Features & Modules list. You can change the Page selected using the Parent Page and Child Page dropdown menus. These are populated in the same fashion as the Page list.
Let's say we want to add a module to a Page titled "View Online", a child of a Page titled "Brochure". Below are two figures, 1 & 2.
Figure 1 | Figure 2 |
Figure 1 (left) shows the Page List with the "Brochure" Page node expanded, allowing us to see that the "View Online" is a child Page.
Figure 2 (right) shows the Page Features & Modules List, with the Brochure & View Online Pages selected in the Parent Page and Child Page dropdown menus respectively.
Finding the Right Pane
Panes allow you to have greater control over the structure and layout of your Pages than you can achieve simply with ordering Feature Modules. The way the Pane grids are laid out is the same way in which they appear in the Page when an end-user hits it, giving you an idea of how the page is coming together.
In Figure 2 (above), you can see that the "View Online" Page has a module titled "HTML" in the top pane. This means that it will appear above all other content on the Page that's added to the other Pages, meaning the end-user sees what you want them to first.
Adding a Feature Module
Pick a Pane on your Page to add a Feature Module too, then click the "Add" button in the bottom left of that Pane grid. When you do, you will be greeted with a blank edit modal, like the one shown below in Figure 3.
Figure 3 Let's take a look at the fields on the edit form, and what they mean.
Name
This is an internal name for the Feature Module. This is to help you identify which Feature Module is which on a Page, and also aids in finding the Settings button for the Feature Module when viewing the Page organically (not through the Admin section).
Module Type
The Type of Feature Module you'd like to add to the Page.
For example, if you were looking to add the results of a search to a Page, you'd look for a module with a name similar to "Flexible Search Results".
Parent Page
This dropdown menu works the same as the Parent Page dropdown menu on the Feature Modules list. By default, this will be populated the same as it was on the list when you're opening the edit form, as WebRes assumes you wish to add the Feature Module to that Page.
Child Page
This dropdown menu works the same as the Child Page dropdown menu on the Feature Modules list. By default, this will be populated the same as it was on the list when you're opening the edit form, as WebRes assumes you wish to add the Feature Module to that Page.
Show in Pane
This dropdown menu allows you to select the Pane in which the Feature Module should appear. By default, this will be populated based on which Add button you clicked, as WebRes assumes you wish to add a Feature Module to that Pane of the Page.
Once you've completed the form and provided values for all of the necessary fields, then you're ready to save the Feature Module to the Page! Click "Save", and the modal will disappear, leaving in its place a new module in your Pane of choice on the selected Page.
Editing a Feature Module
To edit an existing Feature Module, navigate to the Page and Pane where the Feature Module resides, and simply click its name in the grid. After doing so, you will again be greeted by an edit modal, but there will be some differences this time, the "Module Type" field is disabled and a new field called "Clone Module".
Why is the Module Type disabled?
There are a lot of settings that are associated with Feature Modules, and those settings change massively depending on the type of Feature Module. For this reason, changing the Type of a Feature Module isn't a good idea given there's a lot of different bespoke logic that powers our components.
For example, if you swapped an Advanced Search Module Type with a Flexible Search Results Module Type, you're not just swapping types, your swapping purposes. What once allowed customers to make searches now displays the results, opposite ends of a customer journey.
Clone Module
Using the Clone Module field, you can clone a Feature Module, along with its settings, to either the same Pane, a different Pane on another Page or another Page completely. If you wish to move Pane or Page, then change the respective field as desired, then simply enter your chosen name for the new Feature Module once it's been cloned, and click "Clone".
Changing Parent Page, Child Page and Show in Pane on Existing Feature Modules
Whilst the Module Type field may be disabled, you will notice that the Parent Page, Child Page and Show In Pane fields all remain accessible. This means that if you accidentally create a Feature Module on the wrong Pane/Page, you can easily move it to it's intended location.
Removing Feature Modules
There are two ways to remove Feature Modules, both are detailed below.
Removing Feature Modules from the List
The List view gives you the potential to remove multiple Feature Modules at once, but be careful, it gives you less information before you do. To remove items from the List view, select the checkboxes to the left of the Feature Modules you wish to remove, then click the "Remove" button at the bottom right of the Pane grid.
Note - You can only remove Feature Modules from one Pane at a time.
When editing an existing Feature Module, there's a button labelled "Remove". If you click this whilst editing, you can remove just the single Feature Module that you're editing.
Ordering Feature Modules
All Feature Modules will be accompanied by ordering arrows to their left inside a Pane grid. You can use these arrows to shuffle the order of the Panes (one at a time) by clicking on the arrow pointing in the direction you wish to move the Feature Module.
